Silent Cube permanent data storage and archiving system

Monday, 11 January, 2010

Silent Cube, distributed by The Microcare Group, is a permanent data storage and archiving system.

It is claimed to be the first WORM storage system to be expressly and categorically developed for the secure, long-term storage of permanent data. It has been developed as a totally secure second- and third-tier archiving system.

Silent Cube comprises 12 hard disks from three different manufacturers. Should four hard disks fail at the same time, no data will be lost. It does not use RAID. Data sealing against changes, deletions or overwriting is incorporated into the hardware and can therefore never be circumvented.

Silent Cube regularly checks the recorded data automatically (internal digital audit) to maintain the integrity of the files.

Software is also included for replication to a second location to meet compliance requirements and/or disaster recovery.

Silent Cube’s capacity is 12 or 6 terabyte gross (8 or 4 terabyte net). Additional Cubes can be plugged in making the system scalable to petabytes. The in-built software automatically configures any additional Cubes.

One Cube draws two watts of energy in standby mode.
