Australian borders protected by Unisys technology

Critical Australian immigration systems will now be managed by Unisys, after the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) signed a three-year contract with the company.

Under the contract extension, Unisys will continue to provide managed service desk and end-user computing services to DIBP through to June 2021. The contract includes around-the-clock first-level service desk support for all immigration systems and infrastructure support for the department’s mid-range equipment.

The engagement has a potential value of up to AU$77.7 million.

“International airlines, freight companies and travel agents all need to interact with DIBP’s immigration systems, and the combination of Unisys’s domain knowledge, technology and experience delivers the seamless electronic process they expect,” said Lysandra Schmutter, VP Public Sector, Unisys Asia Pacific.

“Effective communication between these systems is critical to allow the Australian Government to check and manage who and what is coming into Australia in a timely manner, while preventing unnecessary delays to legitimate people or cargo entering the country.”

Border security technology is evolving rapidly and that technology must be maintained at a high level of reliability to ensure availability at all times.

Unisys works with government clients around the globe to drive innovation and transform citizen-centric services through digital initiatives, including cloud deployments, applications modernisation, security solutions and advanced data analytics.
