Qld reveals details of planned Data Sharing office

Queensland’s planned Data Sharing and Analytics Office will be an enhanced version of the 27-year-old CITEC Information Brokerage.

CITEC, the Queensland Government’s primary ICT services provider, operates the CITEC Confirm electronic search and retrieval service providing access to more than 40 government and commercial information services.

In a job listing for a principal analyst for the planned Data Sharing and Analytics Office, the government said the office will transform the information sharing capability that CITEC Information Brokerage has built up over the last 27 years.

“This Data Sharing and Analytics Office will focus on building capability in internal to government information sharing, data science and data analytics whilst continuing to operate its traditional information brokerage services,” the listing states.

Plans to establish the new office within the Department of Science, IT and Innovation (DSITI) were first announced in February.

CITEC Confirm is currently operated as a commercial business with around 10,000 customers. It was separated from CITEC’s ICT shared services operation in 2014 as part of a proposed sale of the agency, which never materialised.

Information solutions provided by the brokerage are used to streamline business processes involved in activities including electronic court filing, asset discovery and debt recovery, setting up a business, processing insurance claims and loan processing.

“Leading Queensland Government’s analytics and data sharing agendas, the department will deliver first class products and services across government and externally, including with the private sector,” the listing states.

“This new data sharing and analytics work will lead directly to significant positive outcomes for the government, including: improved community outcomes, improving community safety, reducing costs, reducing risks, gaining new funding, increasing productivity and improving performance.”
