Tudge to outline digital plans

The Federal Minister for Human Services, Alan Tudge, will use the GovInnovate Summit in Canberra next month to outline the federal government’s plans to transform service delivery through the use of digital technology.

Tudge will also use the national public sector forum to detail the $1 billion overhaul of Australia’s 30-year-old welfare system.

“Our digital transformation agenda will significantly improve the user experience and ensure the long-term sustainability of the welfare system,” he said.

“Fundamentally, it will change the way Australians do business with government. Our focus is on delivering the government services our citizens need, when and where they want them.

“We must boldly invest in innovation and digital delivery of services to ensure that we are keeping pace with the expectations of the Australian public.

“This is among the highest priorities and the most challenging tasks for my department,” he added.

The 5th annual GovInnovate Summit will be held at the National Convention Centre Canberra from 14 to 16 November.

Other speakers will include the US digital pioneer and former Presidential Innovation Fellow, Hillary Hartley; Australian Digital Transformation Office leaders Paul Shetler, Rachel Dixon and Radi Kovacevic; and Darryl Carpenter from the Department of Internal Affairs, New Zealand.
