SAS Visual Analytics in-memory business intelligence

Monday, 30 April, 2012

Visual Analytics is an in-memory business intelligence (BI) solution that uses a visual interface to provide analytics and business insights.

Combining analytics, an in-memory architecture, intuitive data exploration, Hadoop support and information delivery options, including iPad, the in-memory engine is designed for business visualisation of big data on inexpensive, non-proprietary hardware, such as industry-standard blade servers.

With the solution, businesses can apply analytics to, and visually explore, large data volumes in near real time and share insights via the web or iPad. Self-service allows users to visually explore data on their own, eliminating the traditional wait for IT-generated reports.

The LASR Analytic Server uses Hadoop (embedded Hadoop Distributed File System) as local storage at the server for fault tolerance. The server has been tested on billions of rows of data and is scalable, bypassing the known column limitations of many relational database management systems, SAS says.

Server components run on Red Hat or SUSE Linux and the mobile client is available for the iPad from the iTunes App Store.
