Optus Wholesale introduces HFC NBN access

Optus Wholesale has become one of the first wholesale NBN providers to introduce hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) access to the network.

The company offers connectivity to the 121 points of interconnect on the NBN at eight key data centre locations across four states.

To improve versatility for customers, the company is also expanding its wholesale NBN offering with state-based, national and hybrid aggregation models.

Wholesale customers will be able to take advantage of NBN access by connecting from their network to aggregated virtual circuits via data centres in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Another facility has been earmarked in Adelaide to offer lower latency for customers in the west of the country.

“We see significant opportunity for our business in the wholesale NBN segment,” Optus Wholesale Head of Marketing John Castro said.

“Optus’s wholesale nbn offering provides Optus Wholesale customers with cost-effective access via a single or multiple aggregation points around the country over our Carrier Ethernet network.”

Castro added that the company’s introduction of wholesale HFC services follows a successful commercial test pilot.

“With these product developments, we’re able to offer scalability to connect to the available NBN multitechnology mix footprint. In addition, we can support the appetite for the higher bandwidth demand of NBN end consumers and allow service providers the flexibility to grow and change NBN infrastructure.”
