Hewlett-Packard StorageWorks P2000 G3 MSA and P4000 G2 SAN

Tuesday, 16 March, 2010

Hewlett-Packard has announced two additions to the HP StorageWorks portfolio: the P2000 G3 Modular Smart Array and the P4000 G2 SAN solutions.

Designed to integrate into a converged infrastructure, HP StorageWorks solutions help customers cost-effectively manage data growth and reduce business downtime by providing instantly accessible storage capacity for changing needs.

The P2000 G3 modular smart array is a flexible entry-level array that helps SMBs, as well as branch offices with limited IT expertise, to easily manage and protect growing data to reduce business downtime.

It helps users scale their storage environments through increased drive capacity. It also improves application availability and performance with the latest 8 Gb fibre channel (FC) controller technology. It can be used for enterprise departmental storage or to easily connect remote offices, allowing the business to share data and make decisions faster.

It gives faster application performance through an 8 Gb FC controller and improved data management and flexibility with an FC/iSCSI combo controller option that offers both 8 Gb FC and 1 Gb iSCSI ports. It features increased data protection with Remote Snap, a replication capability that is built into P2000 G3 systems, and improved scalability with a 50% increase in small-form-factor drive count and a 60% increase in large-form-factor drive count.

The P4000 G2 SAN solution is a high-performance storage system that helps midsize and enterprise users improve business continuity and efficiency by matching the requirements of expanding virtual server environments.

To protect against downtime, it offers redundant components and hardware RAID to guard against disk drive failures. It includes a Network RAID functionality that goes one level above hardware RAID by delivering data protection at the network level against a major power outage, or a complete system or site failure. With it, storage is never the single point of failure for IT infrastructure.

It is a key part of implementing a converged infrastructure to ensure an easy-to-manage, agile IT environment and helps deliver virtual resource pools, which are virtualised collections of shared server, storage and networking capacity that can be utilised on the fly and repurposed to meet any business demand.

It is built on a scalable architecture that provides high levels of data availability. With the SAN/iQ software, it improves capacity use by up to 50% over existing P4000 SAN solutions with Network RAID that reduces the amount of storage space consumed.

It increases storage performance with the best practice analyser and has simplified data management through application integrated snapshot, remote copy and clone capabilities that ensure reliable capture and recovery of data.
