NT releases backup data centre tender

The Northern Territory Government has released a tender seeking leased space in the CBD for a backup to the government’s primary data centre.

The tender to lease suitable space in a Darwin data centre will provide backup to the new Millner data centre, which is being relocated from the Chan Building as part of the $100 million redevelopment of the CBD.

Computing equipment and services from the Chan Building will be transferred to the new data centre over a two-year period, and the backup leased space will provide an extra layer of protection for the NT Government’s critical ICT systems.

After the migration is complete the Chan Building will be demolished to support the CBD revitalisation project.

The primary data centre supports the NT Government’s critical ICT systems and services, including business systems, email and phone services, and internet presence.

“Around 95% of the Department of Corporate and Information Services spend on ICT professionals and services goes to Territory enterprises, injecting around $100 million into the local economy and supporting over 450 jobs for locals,” Northern Territory Minister for Corporate and Information Services Lauren Moss said.

“This tender release sees us continue to focus on supporting and growing the local ICT industry.”
