Prioritising gender equality in the public sector

While the battle for gender equality is far from over, public sector women are building support networks and paving the way for those who follow.

In 2015 it was estimated that there were still 80 years ahead of us before Australia would reach true workplace equality. With significant inequalities in the areas of pay and promotion opportunities, it’s important to realise the need to be more ambitious if we are to bring about equality in our lifetime.

In 2018, the need to take action is paramount if the public sector is to make any significant advancements in balancing gender inequality.

Public Sector Network recently hosted the Women Leaders in Public Sector Roadshow throughout Australia and New Zealand, where experienced and young emerging leaders alike gathered to discuss the next steps for gender equality. Key topics included:

  • Prioritising gender equality across the whole Australian public sector
  • Overcoming the obstacles preventing long-term career success in Australia
  • Building a pipeline of future leaders in the Australian public sector
  • 20-plus years down the road — examining the journey towards gender equality and what needs to be accomplished to create lasting change
