RBA selects new CIO
The Reserve Bank of Australia has promoted Gayan Benedict to the position of CIO, effective from 14 May.
Benedict is currently the bank's deputy head of technology services, a role he has been serving in since 2013. He joined RBA from Westpac, where he was head of technology strategy and enterprise architecture.
He has had a more than 20-year career in the financial services industry across both Australia and Asia, and has previously held executive IT positions at Travelex Commercial Payments and Oracle.
In his new role, Benedict will provide strategic leadership in developing the core IT functions that support RBA's policy, operational and corporate objectives, the organisation said. He will also direct the continued development of the RBA's IT staff and provide advice on meeting the bank's technology needs.
Announcing the appointment, RBA said Benedict was selected from a strong field of both internal and external applicants.
Benedict will be replacing Sarv Girn, who has taken a job as MLC Life Insurance's inaugural chief innovation and transformation officer. Girn has been serving as RBA's CIO since September 2012.
