The Shire of Kellerberrin in Western Australia is using mobile technology from Australian software company Whispir to more easily engage constituents and contractors in the area.

Whispir is a cloud platform for automating intelligent, rich communications. It is delivered as a communications application as a service (CAaaS).

The shire in the heart of the WA wheat belt is using Whispir to inform nearly 400 locals and contractors in the area when there’s a harvest ban in force.

Harvest bans are implemented on hot days when a serious risk that using harvesters and other machinery might start a fire.

Whispir is also being used to inform residents when local facilities are closed, keep the public up to date about upcoming events, send the local council newsletter and send notices to council staff.

Natasha Giles, a community development officer at the Shire of Kellerberrin, called Whispir “the best way to keep everyone informed; it’s a reliable and easy method for us to use. It’s user friendly; we never get any complaints from people who receive the messages. We’re probably keeping the shire more informed than we ever have.”
