The iSOFT Group, one of the largest providers of healthcare IT solutions worldwide, has completed a data centre transformation project with Hewlett-Packard (HP) that has reduced operating and energy costs while enabling growth.

The project, which quadrupled data centre capacity in iSOFT’s Sydney location, resulted in an energy-efficient technology platform that supports the company’s global ambitions.

“We have aggressive goals for this business and our previous data centre was beginning to hold us back. With a redesigned data centre from HP that reduced IT expenses and consolidated services, we’re now able to cost-effectively support operations on five continents,” said Martin Wilkinson, Chief Information Officer, iSOFT Group. “The new iSOFT data centre can now provide industry-leading levels of availability, capacity, scalability and security while reducing power consumption and supporting new capabilities.”

The transformation of iSOFT’s Sydney data centre involved HP data centre design services, HP data centre construction project management services and specialised data centre relocation services. The project included new energy-efficient cooling, redundant UPS power, HP 10000 racks, environmental monitoring, and fire detection and suppression.

The HP design incorporates state-of-the-art data centre technologies and an energy-efficient design that reduces operating expenses while increasing capacity fivefold. The facility also supports unified communications across the company’s global operations, which is important for an organisation that has grown by acquisition.

This project will act as a benchmark for the transformation of the iSOFT data centres around the world.
