DTA to place 250 digital staff in govt agencies
The Digital Transformation Agency is aiming to place 250 entry-level ICT staff in government agencies across Australia over the next 12 months as part of the largest intake in the ICT Entry-Level program’s 10-year history.
Applications for the DTA’s 2018 apprenticeship program close on 4 August and applications for its cadetship program close on 11 August.
Up to 1000 people are expected to apply for the programs, which will see 250 entry-level digital staff placed in various government agencies.
The DTA and the Australian Public Service Commission have also started design work on future digital literacy programs aimed at expanding existing ICT entry-level programs, establishing training opportunities through the Digital Marketplace and increasing talent retention by defining digital career pathways.
These initiatives will be funded as part of the $13.9 million allocated in the Budget over the next three years to build digital capability. The program will also involve developing new digital skills for executives.
Assistant Minister for Cities and Digital Transformation Angus Taylor said the government needs skilled staff to develop effective digital services.
“The private sector is well ahead of us in terms of signing up talent. We want the next group of digital superstars to see government as a great place to start their career,” he said.
