Perth to Geraldton fibre backhaul link fills regional blackspots

Friday, 11 March, 2011

Nextgen Networks has completed work on a 426 km fibre backhaul link between Perth and Geraldton, as part of the government’s $250 million NBN Regional Backbone Blackspots Program (RBBP).

The company expects the link to provide fixed and wireless broadband services to around 35,000 residential and business premises in the Mid West.

According to Nextgen Networks, which built and will maintain the link, the backhaul infrastructure is already providing benefits, specifically “more affordable and innovative broadband arrangements to residents and businesses in the Mid West”.

Phil Sykes, Managing Director at Nextgen, said: “We believe that the RBBP network offers an historic opportunity for service providers to compete in regional markets with an expanded portfolio of services, offering more choice and value to end users.”

Nextgen said the link was completed on time, and on budget.
