DIBP joins D2D CRC
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) has joined the Data to Decisions (D2D) Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) as a participant.
DIBP will be actively involved in all of the CRC’s research and development programs as well as the education and training program through sponsorship of a PhD student and participation in the pilot of the Data Science Competency Framework.
D2D CRC CEO Sanjay Mazumdar said he was pleased the department had joined the centre.
“DIBP’s strategic plan, Strategy 2020, highlights the importance of data analytics and intelligence-led approaches to its strategic objectives,” Dr Mazumdar said.
“We believe the CRC’s R&D activities can positively contribute to DIBP’s objectives.”
DIBP Deputy Secretary Intelligence and Capability Group Maria Fernandez said it was an exciting development for the department, given its increasing use of data analytics and tradecraft to identify threats to the Australian border.
“D2D CRC brings significant expertise in the future of advanced data analytics and intelligence analysis capability which can help the department best process, structure, store and utilise the range of border-related data,” Fernandez said.
