Tech companies commended for sustainable packaging

Sustainable packaging initiatives have been recognised at the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation’s (APCO) annual awards in Melbourne.

Fuji Xerox Australia, HP PPS Australia and SingTel Optus were named as winners in the field.

To take out an award for the technology category, Fuji Xerox Australia has practised sustainability in the procurement and disposal of its packaging materials, leading to 100% recyclable packaging.

HPPS Australia has also made efforts in managing carbon emissions across its supply chain, from sourcing practices to recycled content.

The final award went to SingTel Optus, which has similarly collaborated with its supply chain to achieve significant packaging optimisations and materials savings.

Dell Australia, Brother International Australia, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Australia and Kyocera Document Solutions Australia were also named as finalists in the awards. All finalists were selected based on their performance in sustainable packaging design, comprehensive recycling systems and product stewardship activities to develop sustainable supply chains.

“With the spotlight now firmly on the waste and recycling industries, there has never been a better time for Australian businesses to reduce their environmental footprint. We commend all our finalists and award winners who are leading their industries toward a more sustainable future, and toward an Australia where packaging resources are used and disposed of wisely to minimise our environmental impact,” said Brooke Donnelly, APCO CEO (interim).

APCO connects business, government and industry to find the best possible solutions to packaging efficiency and sustainability in Australia. APCO’s vision is to drive efficiency in resource use and recoverability amongst its members to deliver long-term sustainable environmental outcomes.
