Microsoft adds more cloud storage options to Office
Microsoft has expanded the range of cloud storage choices available for its Office suite to support more third-party services.
The company has introduced native cloud storage integration for its iOS Office apps for third-party cloud storage providers such as Box.
In a blog post, Kirk Koenigsbauer, Microsoft corporate vice president of Office 365 client apps and services, said the company is hard at work introducing the same functionality to the Android versions and the Office universal apps for the upcoming Windows 10 OS.
Microsoft launched Office for Android tablets earlier this month.
The company is also making it possible for cloud service providers to integrate Office Online into their own applications. Partners including Box, Citrix and Salesforce are already working with Microsoft on this integration.
“While these may seem like small enhancements, these new features represent a big step forward for Office integration into the apps and services that are important to our customers,” Koenigsbauer said.
In November, Microsoft arranged to add Dropbox support to its iPad and iPhone Office Apps. The new functionality aims to extend support to more third-party cloud service providers.
The move also represents another step towards Microsoft’s transition to an as-a-service model, as evidenced by its decision to offer Windows 10 as a free upgrade for its first year on the market.
