Citrix XenApp 6 desktop virtualisation software

Tuesday, 16 March, 2010

The Citrix XenApp 6 software centralises applications in the data centre and delivers them as an on-demand service to both physical and virtual desktops. The software, combined with XenDesktop 4, enables the mainstream adoption of desktop virtualisation.

It simplifies desktop computing with AppCentre, a management console that makes it easy for IT to centrally manage all applications enterprise-wide from a single location. It scales up to more than 100,000 concurrent users in a single farm, enabling cost savings and data centre efficiency.

Integration between the software and Microsoft App-V enables users to centrally manage applications using whatever mix of local and hosted solutions fits their requirements. XenApp 6 also includes full support for Windows Server 2008 R2, adding platform enhancements including simplified provisioning, easier automation and more efficient power consumption.

In addition to supporting PCs, thin clients and laptops, the software allows users to access Windows apps from Macs and smart phones such as Apple iPhone, Google Android and Windows Mobile.

It includes HDX technology enhancements that allow users to deliver real-time media applications like voice and CD-quality audio with a high-definition user experience. HDX enhancements also expand support for a broad range of USB devices, including webcams, microphones, digital cameras and scanners.
