VMware Go web-based service
The VMware Go web-based service, developed in partnership with Shavlik, assists small and medium businesses (SMBs) to virtualise their applications by automating the installation and configuration of the company’s ESXi hypervisor.
SMBs can easily virtualise servers and create new virtual machines and existing users of VMware Server are able to migrate to the ESXi platform.
Its Collective Intelligence helps guide virtualisation by aggregating user data to show virtualisation best practices. Users can view what other users have done in each stage of the virtualisation process. Additionally, users can view reports and dashboards with information such as the average number of virtual machines users are creating per host, the top five hardware types on which the community is running ESXi, or the top five virtual appliances that have been downloaded from VMware Go.
Its features include: web browser interface, intuitive wizard set-up and collective intelligence guides accelerate installation and set-up process; built-in hardware compatibility check automates the process of selecting physical server environments; migrate VMware Server virtual machines to ESXi in an automated fashion.
For virtual machine creation, it leverages existing physical server configuration and installs a prebuilt virtual appliance, or starts with a new, clean virtual machine.
Its features, to manage VMware ESXi hosts and virtual machines, include: basic management interface simplifies changes to a virtual environment; monitors virtual machines for basic performance and resource utilisation; patch scans and remediation for VMware ESXi; scans and updates virtual machines from a central console
