Digital Realty gets Tier III cert for Melbourne DC
Data centre provider Digital Realty has secured full Tier III certification for its second Melbourne data centre.
The new facility in Deer Park has been awarded Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility from the Uptime Institute. The institute had already granted the facility Tier III Certification of Design Documents.
Digital Realty aims to have 20 of its data centres worldwide certified as Tier III by the institute. The Deer Park facility makes seven and certification is underway for six more in Asia and Europe.
The data centre is expected to be fully operational by November. Digital Realty’s first data centre in Melbourne and its facility in Sydney also have Tier III certification.
The Tier system classes data centres based on their ability to meet businesses’ requirements for system availability. It is designed to be a consistent method to compare customised facilities based on the metric of expected uptime.
“Many providers claim to offer ‘Tier III’ data centres but few have the discipline to seek the reality of Tier Certification,” Uptime Institute COO Julian Kudritzki said.
“We are very pleased to be working with Digital Realty, which has made a significant investment in the Tier III Certification process across many new data centres on a number of continents.”
