APC by Schneider PowerChute Business Edition 9.0 UPS software

Thursday, 02 December, 2010

PowerChute Business Edition 9.0 (UPS) is claimed to be the first uninterruptable power supply (UPS) software to provide energy reporting for IT equipment. It provides APC safe system shutdown and UPS management users with energy, cost and CO2 emissions reporting by each individual smart-UPS system.

The software calculates the cost of a Smart-UPS’s power draw in kWh using the appropriate local currency, providing an accurate depiction of the energy use of protected equipment.

The Smart-UPS devices for servers, storage and networks protect critical data and equipment from power problems by supplying clean and reliable network-grade power. The Smart-UPS family fifth-generation, rack-mount models include an LCD user interface and an efficient green mode, projected battery replacement date indicator and switched outlet groups. They also feature sinewave output, automated voltage regulation, serial/USB communications and network manageability.

By using the APC Smart-UPS with switched outlet groups and the PowerChute software, users can configure the exact sequence of equipment shutdown and restart so that more critical servers stay online longer. Users can also power off less critical equipment under certain conditions to conserve runtime.

Turning off unessential servers outside business hours using the scheduled shutdown and reboot capability in the software reduces server running costs and CO2 output.
