Digital safety for class of 2020
As students transition from primary to secondary school, it's time for a final word about living, learning and playing safely online.
The Cyber Safety Project is hosting a Zoom webinar for the graduating Year 6 class of 2020 from across Australia. The Digi-cursion is designed to start a timely conversation about digital safety and wellbeing for students transitioning to secondary school.
The leap from primary to secondary school marks one of the biggest transitions in a young person's life. It's also a time when most young Australians get their first taste of digital independence, with access to a personal device, and join social networks.
Connecting online, especially with friends, can be fun but it's important to know how to be safe whilst doing so. To stay safe we must consider where we are online and who can see us in the different spaces we go online, and think carefully about the types of information we share.
This interactive digital workshop is designed to arm Australian Grade 6 students transitioning to secondary school with the tools, strategies and resources to thrive and stay safe in a hyper-connected digital world.
Through participating in this digital workshop, students will:
- develop a clear understanding of the different types of spaces we go online
- reflect on and learn from common mistakes made by young people on social media
- learn how to take control of their digital safety and wellbeing through app and game settings
- identify simple ways to be an upstanding digital citizen in 2021 and beyond
- uncover ways to manage cyber bullying through the promotion of help-seeking strategies and resources.
Educator resource packs
To continue the dialogue back in classrooms, participating educators will be provided with the Digi-cursion Educator Resource Pack with teacher guides and resources to help facilitate the following lessons:
- Social Networking Scorecard
- App Setting Audit
- Cyber Safety Pledge
This Dig-cursion is a single-stream (presenters only) webinar hosted on Zoom. For further details or to discuss how your school can get involved, phone 1300 114 117 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
