Half of Aussie enterprises to deploy SD-WAN

More than half (51%) of Australian enterprises plan to deploy software defined wide area network (SD-WAN) technology in the next 12–24 months, according to research conducted by Frost & Sullivan.

An end-user market survey commissioned by Silver Peak found that 55% of Australian respondents plan to replace existing branch routers with an SD-WAN appliance that supports routing functionality during this time.

Australian respondents are most drawn to SD-WAN’s potential to allow them to deploy new branch sites faster, apply granular security policies, and improve WAN and application performance.

The survey also found that 71% of Australian respondents want WAN optimisation as an integrated function of an SD-WAN deployment, while 67% want the SD-WAN to at least be able to interoperate with their existing solution.

SD-WAN, hybrid cloud services and network/application security are top technology priorities for enterprises in Australia over the next 12–24 months, the survey found.

“This isn’t surprising as these three technologies are intertwined and directly support the top business driver of improving the overall customer experience,” Frost & Sullivan Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand Mark Dougan said.

“What is surprising, however, is the mindset regarding various WAN functions while evaluating SD-WAN, especially the intent of Australian organisations to replace CPE routers with an SD-WAN appliance with integrated routing functionality.”
