Microsoft extends life of Exchange Server 2010

Microsoft is extending the end of support date for Exchange Server 2010 to give businesses 10 more months to complete the migration away from the messaging platform.

The end of support date for the product has now been extended to 13 October, from the earlier date of 14 January.

While Exchange Server 2010 will continue to run after the cut-off date, Microsoft will no longer provide technical support, bug and security fixes and time zone updates.

As well as giving existing users more time to upgrade to a newer version of Exchange Server or migrate to the cloud via Office 365 or Exchange Online, the extension is aimed at bringing the end of support date in line with the end of support for Office 2010 and SharePoint Server 2010.

Exchange Server 2010 gives the ability to upgrade directly to Exchange Server 2013 or 2016, but cannot be directly upgraded to the latest 2019 release of the product.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is providing eligible companies with the ability to use the Microsoft FastTrack service for easier migration to Office 365 and Exchange Online.

This month Microsoft also extended the end of support date for each of the tools in its Microsoft Desktop Optimisation Pack portfolio of products until April 2026. These tools had a range of end of support dates, with the earliest being January 2021.
