Uniti aims to double workforce with $5m jobs grant

Wireless nbn competitor Uniti Wireless has secured a $5 million grant from South Australia’s Future Jobs fund to support the company’s goal of doubling its workforce as it expands nationally.

The grant funding will be used to pursue talent in the fields of engineering, software development, customer support, sales and marketing.

Uniti currently offers a fixed wireless broadband service providing speeds of up to 100 Mbps to residential and business customers in Melbourne and Adelaide. Now the company plans to expand its network into metropolitan Perth, Sydney and Brisbane before the end of the year.

The company’s ‘fibre through the air’ branded service combines advanced fixed wireless technology with a fibre-based backhaul network. Uniti markets its services at customers seeking a fast broadband connection and not wishing to wait for nbn services.

“South Australia has an amazing entrepreneurial spirit and is leading the way in terms of technology and innovation. We are pleased the government is backing us financially and can see the importance of providing an alternative to the nbn to solve a key problem that is holding back Australia’s productivity and growth: universal access to reliable and super fast broadband,” Uniti Chief Administrative Officer Ali Foster said.

“We are proud to be an Adelaide-based company, soon to be doing business on a national scale. We have more than 65 people currently working for us and are committed to building a strong local workforce. Our aim is to create more than 200 new jobs and pump millions into the state economy over the next few years.”
