Aust students head to China for Huawei training course
A cohort of 13 Australian undergraduate ICT students have travelled to China to participate in a three-week training course provided by telecom vendor Huawei.
The second-year students were selected from nine Australian universities to take part in the second annual Huawei Telecom Seeds for the Future program. This year, 350 students from 30 countries are participating.
As part of the program, the students are first undertaking a week of Chinese cultural and language studies at the Beijing University of Language and Culture, before undertaking ICT training at Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen.
Australian students were selected by Huawei Australia on criteria including academic performance and a desire to broaden their knowledge of telecom and technology issues.
The students include three from Griffith University, two each from the University of Newcastle and Southern Cross University, and single students from Deakin University, Monash University, RMIT, Swinburne University of Technology, the ANU and the University of Melbourne.
The Telecom Seeds for the Future program commenced on 28 June and will conclude on 19 July.
Huawei employs more than 70,000 R&D engineers worldwide. Huawei Australia has around 600 staff, 80% of whom are locals.
