DCIS taps IBM for new mainframe
NT's Department of Corporate and Information Services (DCIS) will deploy a new mainframe from IBM to improve the reliability and efficiency of its core database systems.
The DCIS will become one of the first organisations in the world to deploy IBM’s new zEnterprise BC12 (zBC122) mainframe system, as part of its regular four-year IT refresh.
DCIS oversees a range of NT government data systems including accounting, personnel and vehicle registration.
“With significant and rising transaction volumes across the department, our infrastructure needs to enable fast, reliable access to data which can drive down costs while also improving levels of service,” Scott Thomson, DCIS director for data centre services, said.
He said IBM’s zBC12 was chosen after “rigorous trials” of the product showed that it can meet the department’s needs. IBM has been supplying the department with mainframes for nearly 30 years.
