Eftel acquires telco wholesaler Platform Networks

Tuesday, 23 August, 2011

Eftel will acquire wholesale telecommunications service provider Platform Networks under a new agreement announced today.

Platform is a wholesale aggregator of Australian telecommunications services to ISPs, telco retailers, system integrators and international telecommunications companies.

Eftel CEO Scott Stavretis said: “Combining [Platform Networks] with the strong supply relationships that Eftel has procured will ensure we can add positive EBITDA straight to the bottom line.”

Stavretis said Eftel will continue the Platform Networks business on in its current form, with the addition of a range of products “missing from the current product suite”.

These include mobile telephony and 3G mobile broadband - products that Stavretis said Platform customers want.

“Platform Networks also brings to Eftel a range of data centre services that will enable us to provide to our corporate customers a range of solutions in the rapidly growing cloud-based hosting market,” said Stavretis.

The transaction has been executed in full and takes effect immediately.

Platform recently created headlines when it was the subject of a widespread hacking attack. Platform Mananging Director David Hooton later spoke to Voice+Data about the details of the attack.
