Sharon AI to deploy 600 PB of VAST Data infrastructure

Australian neocloud provider Sharon AI has signed a deal to deploy 600 petabytes of global AI operating system VAST Data across its AI cloud infrastructure.

The company says the deployment represents one of the largest sovereign AI implementations in the Asia–Pacific region, and will provide Sharon AI with the ability to better build independent, high-performance AI capability.

Using a common benchmark, the 600 petabyte deployment provides the backbone equivalent to supporting the data needs of around 100,000 GPUs.

As part of the agreement, the companies will also continue collaborating on optimising the Sharon AI platform as its customer workloads and AI factory ambitions scale.

The VAST Data OS was engineered to provide sovereign AI deployments with control over data location, movement and access without sacrificing performance. It uses a Disaggregated Shared Everything architecture to create a parallel distributed system designed to eliminate traditional bottlenecks, while built-in multi-tenancy provides isolation, guaranteed performance and separate controls per customer.

Sharon AI co-founder and CEO James Manning said the company’s customers need both data sovereignty and AI speed to be at the highest level.

“Standardising on the VAST AI Operating System at this unprecedented 600 PB scale gives us exactly that: a rock-solid, high-performance foundation we can scale confidently as demand for sovereign AI across Australia and Asia–Pacific accelerates,” he said. “This is how we build Australia’s AI future — powerful, secure and proudly local.”
