NBN Co updates rollout map

NBN Co has upgraded its interactive NBN rollout map to also display the areas where build preparation is taking place.

‘Build preparation’ zones are areas where contractors in built-up areas are conducting pre-construction activities, such as readying Telstra’s pits and pipes for use by NBN Co.

The build preparation stage takes place after the design phase is complete but before construction commences. The upgraded rollout map shows that this stage is underway for around 167,000 pre-existing homes and businesses.

By comparison, there are around 195,000 active NBN connections and there are 290,000 premises where construction has commenced.

The largest proportion of build preparation is taking place in New South Wales, which accounts for around 62,100 premises. There are also around 43,200 premises in Queensland, 23,800 in South Australia, 18,700 in Western Australia, 17,300 in Victoria and 2400 in Tasmania.

“We are stabilising the NBN rollout and have reviewed the underlying data. That gives us the confidence to be able to provide greater clarity about work underway across Australia,” NBN Co COO Greg Adcock said.

NBN Co’s latest weekly progress report states that 20,524 additional lots and premises were passed by the network for the week ending 1 June. During the period an additional 3753 premises had services activated, including 3382 fixed-line services and 371 satellite-based services.
