Websense Web Security Gateway Anywhere

Tuesday, 18 May, 2010

Websense has announced the Web Security Gateway Anywhere, a secure web gateway with threat and risk prevention and deployment capabilities, part of the Triton system.

It is claimed to be the first and only secure web gateway: to include enterprise-class data loss prevention (DLP) for the web with TruWeb DLP; to combine the power of on-premise deployment with the flexibility of a full SaaS with TruHybrid deployment; and DLP to be unified on virtualised appliances with availability on the company’s V-series appliances.

It is also claimed to be the first and only secure web gateway in a unified content security system under one management system, the Triton console and the first secure web gateway with extensive coverage for applications and content types including rich internet applications, more than 7500 Facebook applications, security-as-a-service (SaaS) applications, outbound malware and proxy avoidance.

The solution includes the company’s TruWeb DLP technology embedded to prevent data loss through the web. The technology does not compromise DLP capability for consolidation, instead it offers the company’s full DLP capabilities for web channels, including SSL, without compromising functionality, ease of use or expandability to other channels like email, USB and discovery.

The technology’s DLP functionality is critical to address compliance concerns and advanced persistent threats. With a few clicks from the same administration console, users can proactively enforce data policies to meet regulatory requirements, detect and protect sensitive information from leaving the enterprise and enable more than 1200 policies through an intuitive policy wizard to secure both who and what can go where on the web. This includes full reporting, incident management and end-user education to protect from data breaches or loss over the web. This protection capability can be expanded to additional channels - to the endpoint and for data at rest - with a few additional clicks and without redeploying the management, policies or system.

The TruHybrid functionality allows organisations to deploy Websense both on-premise and in the cloud at different points in the enterprise and manage security, reporting and policies centrally from the Triton console, reducing time, complexity and the overhead and cost of administering disparate systems. It also ensures that security policies are enforced uniformly throughout the organisation.

The company is expanding its V-Series appliances with the V5000 appliance for branch office and medium business deployments where on-premise solution deployment is required. A scaled version of the larger V10000 appliance, it provides another option for users of all sizes to take advantage of the Advanced Categorisation Engine and Triton architecture to reduce complexity and IT footprint and provide SMBs the same deployment and security.
