Joint Cyber Security Centre opens in Melbourne

The federal government has launched Australia’s second Joint Cyber Security Centre in Melbourne to join the existing facility in Brisbane.

CERT Australia will lead the new joint centre, which also includes representatives from the Australian and Victorian governments as well as law enforcement agencies and businesses operating critical infrastructure or systems of national interest.

It will provide a trusted environment for collaboration and information sharing on cybersecurity, and conduct activities including workshops on specific cyber threats and developing solutions to security risks.

The first of the joint centres was opened in Brisbane in February, and two more in Sydney and Perth will be established by the end of the year. A fifth facility in Adelaide will be opened at a later date. These facilities will be linked to the Australian Cyber Security Centre in Canberra.

Work is meanwhile underway on an online information sharing portal to facilitate the timely sharing of cybersecurity information across Australia, with the input of the joint centres.

The $47 million Join Cyber Security Centre program was developed in partnership with industry as part of the government’s cybersecurity strategy.
