Broadcom launches VCF 9.0

Broadcom has launched into general availability VMware Cloud Foundation 9.0, a new unified virtualisation platform for running traditional, AI and cloud-native applications.

The company says the latest evolution of the VMware product range is designed to provide users with a consistent operating model for the private cloud, spanning data centres, edge and managed cloud infrastructure from third-party providers.

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.0 uses a completely new architecture that aims to provide a streamlined experience for building, operating and securing a modern private cloud across on-premises and cloud environments. It also uses a single unified interface for cloud administration, boasts a new quick-start app to significantly cut back on setup time and complexity, and provides a unified interface for platform and development teams.

The platform is engineered to help organisations meet data sovereignty and security requirements, with new features such as a SecOps dashboard, which offers a quick view of platform security and data controls from a single pane of glass.

Broadcom’s SVP and GM for its VCF Division Krish Prasad said with the launch of the upgraded platform, the company is aiming to raise the bar for the modern private cloud.

“Most enterprises are now looking to the private cloud to run both traditional mission-critical and new AI and containerised applications,” he said. “VMware Cloud Foundation 9.0 is the ideal platform for running these modern applications, enabling our customers to be more innovative, efficient, resilient and secure. We are very excited to see that customers of all sizes are embracing VCF at a rate that has exceeded even our own high expectations.”

Broadcom acquired VMware in November 2023 in a cash and stock deal worth around US$69 billion (AU$106.44 billion).

New VCF solutions

As well as the platform itself, Broadcom has announced a range of advanced services for the VCF portfolio, including a joint AI solution developed by Broadcom and Nvidia that includes the VMware private AI package and NVIDIA AI Enterprise.

Other new services include VMware Live Recovery, a single solution for managing cyber and disaster recovery across VCF deployments and an advanced threat detection and response service. Meanwhile the VMware Data Services Manager provides enterprise support for PostgreSQL and MySQL, and the Avi Load Balancer provides plug-and-play load balancing services for VM and Kubernetes workloads.
