EMC VPLEX Geo virtual storage technology

Monday, 20 June, 2011

VPLEX virtual storage technology federates data located on multiple storage systems - EMC and non-EMC - allowing the storage resources in multiple data centres to be pooled together and accessed anywhere. When combined with virtual servers, it is a critical enabler of private and hybrid cloud computing and the delivery of IT as a flexible, efficient and resilient service.

EMC VPLEX Geo is a claimed industry first that enables active/active data over distance, allowing applications and data at two locations to be accessed, shared and dynamically moved thousands of miles. Two data centres, housing a wide variety of technologies, can be utilised as a single, highly available, flexible and resilient resource.

Geo is a key enabling technology for hybrid clouds and provides significant operational efficiencies and business continuity capabilities by allowing dynamic application and data movement between customer and service provider data centres.

VPLEX’s hardware and software capabilities increase efficiency, non-EMC storage support, availability and connectivity - all in a smaller package for improved flexibility.
