Telstra desktop video phone service

Monday, 12 April, 2010

Telstra has launched a video telephony service enabling face-to-face communication using desktop video phones. Organisations currently using the company‘s hosted IP telephony product (TIPT) can use the business-to-business video telephony service by upgrading their desktop phones.

The company has upgraded its network so that users can share video calls between business customers as easily as sharing IP voice traffic. It partnered with Polycom to introduce the first video phone that will enable TIPT customers to access affordable video calling.

When teamed with the company‘s hosted IP telephony network, the video phone can deliver business-grade video calling with a simple touch of the screen.

The VVX 1500 Business Media Phone device is HD voice ready and features a 7 touch-screen display, six lines, a Gb ethernet switch and an integrated camera. The phone provides a quality video and voice experience due to data traffic prioritisation on the company‘s Next IP network.

The company is also launching high-definition (HD) voice calling between businesses using its IP telephony. HD voice calling is claimed to deliver twice the clarity of ordinary phone calls and organisations currently using HD-capable TIPT handsets will automatically access HD voice calling when connecting with other TIPT customers with compatible handsets.
