The all-electric school transport of the future
Students could soon be catching school buses that are 100% electric.
SEA Electric’s showcase at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in the USA includes an all-electric Type C school bus available in the Ride & Drive portion of the event.
The vehicle results from a partnership between SEA Electric and Midwest Transit Equipment (MTE), who have committed to transforming 10,000 school buses across America with zero-emissions technology.
This deal, the largest of its kind to date, will see 100% electric school buses made available across the country at a fraction of the cost of an all-new vehicle. This deal for both Type A and Type C buses is scheduled for delivery over the next five years.
The SEA-Drive power system used by the vehicles does not emit carbon dioxide, methane or nitrous oxide. In addition, by implementing the MTE strategy of transforming existing internal combustion-powered vehicles, waste is significantly reduced and harmful diesel particulates are eliminated, improving the health and wellbeing of students and others along busy school bus routes.
Notably, the buses will have the ability to deliver full vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities, with the SEA-Drive power-system able to feed electricity back into the power grid to improve stability when connected to a charging station.
