US firm's IT investment delivers 300 jobs in Victoria
Global technology insurance company Asurion is creating 300 new jobs by investing $3.7 million in two new technical support centres in Victoria, the state's Premier, Denis Napthine, said on Wednesday.
Asurion specialises in providing mobile handset insurance protection and extended service plans for retailers and service providers, with 280 million customers worldwide.
Dr Napthine and Minister for Technology Gordon Rich-Phillips announced the two new technical support centres while attending the official opening of Asurion’s electronic product protection centre in Armadale.
"This is a growing industry and we are delighted to have been able to partner with Asurion to secure these technical support centres, with the first facility to house 150 workers and to be located in Armadale," Dr Napthine said. "The second centre will be just as big, if not bigger, at a location that is still being finalised."
Minister for Technology Gordon Rich-Phillips said that Asurion had identified Victoria as a major market for its services and will set up an integrated technical support centre encompassing a call centre, data services and technical support agents.
The technical support centres will offer 24-hour support to Asurion customers. The Armadale site will have 90 seats accommodating about 150 employees ‘hot-desking’ around the clock.
Minister Rich-Phillips said that over the past three years, the Victorian Government has facilitated more than $1 billion in new technology-related investments, creating more than 4700 jobs.
