NSW gets new Innovation Minister in reshuffle
NSW Liberal MP Matt Kean has been appointed to the role of Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation in a cabinet reshuffle by Premier Gladys Berejiklian.
Kean, the member for Hornsby and current Parliamentary Secretary for Treasury, is taking over from Ryde MP Victor Dominello.
Kean entered parliament in 2011 and was appointed Treasury secretary after being re-elected in 2015. He joined parliament after working as a chartered accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Dominello will become Minister for Finance, Services and Property. Since being elected as member for Ryde in 2008, he has held a number of ministerial positions, including Minister for Citizenship and Communities, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Minister for Veterans’ Affairs.
The reshuffle has also seen the establishment of the state’s first dedicated Minister for Counter Terrorism and a dedicated Minister for the $16.8 billion WestConnex motorway project.
The former portfolio will be taken up by David Elliott, who is also Minister for Corrections and Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, while Minister for Western Sydney and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres will take the latter.
More broadly, seven new MPs will join cabinet in the reshuffle — four Liberals and three Nationals, while five MPs have been dropped — three Nationals and two Liberals.
