Odds in favour of census site crash
Sportsbet is offering odds of $1.50 that the Census website will crash on Census night, with $2.50 odds for it to remain online for the duration.
Punters are very confident the site will crash, with 90% of the money backing an outage.
In other Census markets, there are predictions that 65–69.99% of Australians will complete the Census online, which is the $3.00 favourite.
No religion is the $1.12 favourite to be the most listed faith, followed by Catholic ($3.50), Anglican ($11) and Islam ($21).
Jedi topping the list is a long shot at $501, but that has not stopped some from having a punt at those odds. Sportsbet believes tens of thousands of Australians will name Jedi as their religion of choice, with odds of $1.70 on offer if there are more than 60,000 bets.
Sportsbet is confident Australia will remain a nation with more women than men, with Australia’s male population favoured to be 49–49.49%, which is paying $2.00.
Less than 50% of Australians are expected to be married, with 47–47.99% the $2.50 favourite, while English or Australian are the $1.87 equal favourites to be the top answers regarding ancestry.
“With around 65% of Australians expected to head online to complete the Census, the ABS servers will be stretched to full capacity on Tuesday night. Sportsbet punters are confident the site will crash, with 90% tipping the site will go offline at some stage on Tuesday night,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Bulmer.
