Pega to launch AI solution that charges only for outcomes

Enterprise AI software company Pegasystems is seeking to shake up the AI sector by introducing an AI solution that enables customers to pay for outcomes rather than paying per token.

The Pega Infinity 26 platform will provide users with predictable costs, with charges per completed task rather than per seat or per token. The solution uses the company’s Pega Predictable AI architecture, which shifts AI reasoning to design time, in order to enable runtime agents to maintain their speed and reliability.

Teams will be able to design and build agentic workflows that best suit their mission-critical business processes, such as servicing customer requests, approving loans or underwriting claims. Once the workflow is designed and deployed, Pega shifts to a semantic AI mode better suited for runtime, when agents are required to process millions of user requests.

If a specific step in the process needs deeper large language model use, the step provides specific and bounded instructions to ensure predictable usage and charging outcomes.

Pega founder and CEO Alan Trefler said the solution will address a pressing demand in the market.

“Enterprises are quickly waking up to the fact that tokenmaxxing is ridiculous: it can only lead to unsustainable costs and unpredictable results,” he said. “AI best creates value when it delivers reliable outcomes at scale. That’s why we don’t charge clients based on how many tokens they use, but by the meaningful work they accomplish.

“Combined with an architecture built for governed execution, Pega now gives organisations unrivalled freedom to use AI agents.”

Pega Infinity 26 will launch in the third quarter of the year.
