Westpac and Amp Frontier announce AI engineering partnership

Westpac has announced a new step in its AI strategy, announcing a strategic partnership with Amp Frontier Corporation (Amp), an AI frontier research lab. Together the companies aim to build the next generation of AI-powered software that Westpac says will deliver better experiences for customers and employees.

In support of this, Amp will establish Amp Labs in Australia, a special-purpose company with dedicated AI engineers who will work alongside Westpac teams. Together, Westpac and Amp engineers will use AI to help transform how the bank builds and delivers technology, supporting major programs and delivering improved digital experiences in weeks rather than months.

Founded in San Francisco in 2025, Amp builds agents for software engineering. The partnership aims to unlock new ways of working for Westpac’s engineers, allowing them to spend less time on repetitive tasks and more time solving complex customer and business challenges.

Westpac Chief Data, Digital and AI Officer Andrew McMullan said AI plays an increasingly important role in helping the bank deliver better outcomes for customers.

“Software engineering is being reshaped by AI, much like the cloud reshaped technology a generation ago. We’re investing in skills, talent and capability that will benefit Westpac and contribute to Australia’s growing AI ecosystem,” he said. “Through Amp Labs, our teams will work alongside AI engineering experts, helping build expertise that benefits our people, our customers and the broader industry.”

Amp co-founder and CEO Quinn Slack said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to building the next generation of AI engineering capability while delivering better outcomes for customers.

“AI is changing how software is built and how companies work. With AI, we’ve seen how Westpac is moving faster than ever to improve quality and make their customers happier,” he said.
