Juniper Networks Universal WAN enterprise and branch routing portfolio

Friday, 20 May, 2011

Juniper Networks’ Universal WAN scalable enterprise and branch routing portfolio can support rapidly growing mobile, video and cloud computing applications.

Universal WAN is claimed to be the highest performance and most scalable routing offering specifically designed to support distributed enterprises that run business-critical applications across varied locations, including data centres, campuses and branches. It comprises additions to the MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routing portfolio, including the compact MX5, MX10 and MX40 as well as configuration updates to the SRX Series Services Gateways. It uses the Junos operating system with consistent update releases to increase manageability, operational simplicity and resiliency.

With the new additions, the MX Series routers deliver the claimed broadest bandwidth and throughput scalability, ranging from 20 Gbps in the MX5 up to 2.6 Tbps in the MX960. The additions can also scale up to the full functionality of an MX80.

The routers also support a wide range of interfaces from DS3 to 10 Gb ethernet that can flexibly scale to match the changing requirements of the network. The additions also include the first non-ethernet modular line cards that can be deployed across the entire series. The line cards include two clear channel and channelised line cards at OC3, OC12 and OC48 rates with command line configurability in a single module.

The SRX100, SRX650 and SRX200 services gateways integrate branch routing capabilities and security simultaneously.

Both the MX and SRX Series feature Junos Space Service Now to simplify and automate technical support. Both routers also feature the Networks J-Web application that enables connectivity and management of the branch devices. The combined Junos software tools, along with a comprehensive library of Day One how-to books, enable the establishment of branch connectivity in <10 min.
