AISA to resolve tensions at March EGM
The Australian Information Security Association (AISA) will hold an extraordinary general meeting in the wake of discontent from some members over the performance of the association’s board.
While a petition from the group of members seeking to hold a full re-election of the board failed to achieve the required number of signatures, AISA said in a statement that it is holding the meeting to “remove ongoing uncertainty and allow AISA to turn its full focus towards the future”.
The EGM will take place on 24 March and will be held in most states. AISA is also seeking to webcast the meeting in webinar form for members unable to attend in person.
AISA has meanwhile announced plans to hold this year’s annual general meeting one month earlier in November to improve member participation.
Members will also now receive three months’ notice before the meeting to give time for board candidates seeking election to present at member briefing sessions. These sessions will be webcast to enable candidates to connect with AISA members nationally.
AISA Deputy Chair Damien Manuel said the changes are designed to ensure that AISA represents all of its members.
“AISA plays a critical role in the development of a robust information security sector through its specific focus on building the capacity of cybersecurity professionals in Australia,” he said.
“We are supported by nearly 3000 industry leaders and their engagement is vital to ensure that our decisions heading into 2018 reflect the interests of all AISA members.”
