Orro launches managed secure browser service

Australian technology services provider Orro has launched a secure browser service aimed at addressing a key gap in conventional security processes.

The service is powered by Island, the enterprise browser environment co-founded by Mike Fey and Dan Amiga. It is designed to provide organisations with granular control over activities within the browser, while preventing data leakage and blocking browser-specific threats. The service will be fully managed by Orro’s Australian-based security team and is able to be deployed in days, according to the company.

Orro CEO Daniel Greengarten said while organisations have adopted firewalls, endpoint agents and cloud security platforms, the browser itself is often still largely ungoverned, despite being the portal through which staff spend their entire day accessing software applications and handling customer data.

“The browser is the single biggest blind spot in most security environments. It is where staff spend the majority of their working day, and where the least governance exists. That now includes AI, with employees routinely entering sensitive data into public AI tools through a browser, with no oversight and no controls,” he said.

“This service changes that. It gives our customers genuine visibility and control at the point where their data is actually at risk, without adding complexity their teams can’t manage.”

The capabilities of Island allow Orro’s Managed Secure Browser to enforce policies directly within the browser session, which will help to plug these security gaps, Greengarten said. This allows the platform to restrict copy, screen sharing, downloads and uploads of sensitive data, while providing a full audit trail of user activity. Different policies can be applied based on whether the end user is accessing the browser with a managed corporate device or a personal laptop.

The service is now available to existing Orro customers.
