Queensland government awards two key IT security offers

Monday, 27 September, 2010

Dimension Data, together with partners RSA, The Security Division of EMC, and McAfee, are to provide integrated Security Information and Event Management, and Patch and Vulnerability Management solutions for Queensland Government’s ICT Consolidation program (ICTC).

Dimension Data will be providing technology, solutions and services for Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) in partnership with RSA; and Patch and Vulnerability Management (PVM) in partnership with McAfee. Both SOAs and initial contracts form part of the Foundation Infrastructure Project (FIP), a key component of ICTC. The FIP will build the foundation infrastructure that enables whole-of-government consolidation of the Queensland Government’s CBD data centres, networks and infrastructure services to CITEC, the government’s primary ICT service provider.

Security information and event management (SIEM)

SIEM solutions collect and analyse security event information from many sources in real time to identify attacks, correlate security events and analyse/report on security log and security event data for compliance monitoring. Dimension Data will implement RSA’s enVision solution to collect and receive events and log data from network, system and application sources.

Patch and vulnerability management (PVM)

PVM solutions scan for and report on security vulnerabilities and misconfigurations on network devices, systems and applications.

McAfee Vulnerability Manager will be deployed by Dimension Data to scan and report on security vulnerabilities and misconfigurations on network devices, systems and applications.

Both SIEM and PVM systems will be integrated to enable a broad range of risk and compliance reporting, and both systems will also be integrated with Queensland Government’s Enterprise Management and IT Service Management systems.

In addition to the design and implementation of both the SIEM and PVM solutions, Dimension Data security consultants will develop the standards and policies for both solutions, and draft the Queensland Government Enterprise Architecture (QGEA) position papers for both SIEM and PVM. Under the Standing Offer Arrangements, Dimension Data will also provide a catalogue of security services with preferential whole-of-government rates to streamline the process for agencies requiring security services such as forensic analysis, incident response and independent vulnerability assessment.
