Veeam launches free Splunk extension
Data resilience company Veeam has announced integration of the Veeam Data Platform with Splunk aimed at helping enterprises gain enhanced visibility into potential cyber threats. A new Splunk extension will allow Veeam Data Platform customers to monitor the health and security status of their Veeam backup infrastructure using Splunk capabilities.
The extension is being made available for free for enterprises with Veeam Data Platform Advanced or Premium licences.
The app provides features including built-in dashboards to monitor job statuses and security events, built-in reports and alerts, severity level management for events and alerts, as well as support for multiple Veeam Backup and Replication servers.
Veeam Chief Revenue Officer John Jester said research suggests that 93% of ransomware attacks are specifically targeting organisations’ data backups. In light of the threat, it is essential that Security Information and Event Management solutions like Splunk are upgraded to catch cyber threats to backups as well as other parts of their systems.
“Veeam is focused on powering data resilience for every customer and this includes tight integration with the leading security platforms. Now security professionals can use Splunk to closely monitor their Veeam backup environments through detailed dashboards, reports and alerts,” Jester said. “Combatting cyber attacks requires integration across your infrastructure, and the Veeam App for Splunk brings Veeam event data into Splunk, enabling customers to monitor security events like ransomware, accidental deletion, malware and other cyber threats using their current tools.”
