Commvault launches data restore solution for Amazon S3
Hybrid cloud data protection company Commvault has launched a new solution designed to allow enterprises to use automation to rapidly revert data stored in Amazon S3 to specific versions from specific times. The company says that Clumio Backtrack can help cloud operations, IT and security teams effectively turn back the clock to before data was compromised in ransomware or other data distorting attacks or errors.
The solution uses Amazon S3 versioning to empower organisations to recover data sets as needed. It uses a serverless architecture that enables it to scale dynamically to be able to recover data sets of practically any size, up to entire buckets of data capable of storing billions of objects. If a piece of data is lost, deleted or altered, it can be easily recovered as quickly as seconds after an issue is discovered.
As well as deliberate attacks, the solution can help organisations recover data that may have been accidentally deleted, or corrupted due to faulty applications.
Commvault CTO for Cloud Native Woon Jung said organisations are increasingly turning to object storage services like Amazon S3 capable of handling the data volume and complexity of modern AI workloads.
“With the increasing complexity of enterprise data environments, businesses need fast, scalable, and secure data recovery solutions for the cloud-first world,” he said. “We’re thrilled to offer a level of granularity and point-in-time options for object recovery that spans billions of objects and can help customers drive even greater benefits from their cloud investments.”
The solution will launch into early access in December, with general availability planned for early next year.
Commvault has been investing in supporting cloud-first customers through moves including its acquisition of Clumio last year, and its launch of cloud-first offerings including Cloud Rewind, Air Gap Protect and Cleanroom Recovery.
