Macquarie gets $200m investment from NRFC

Macquarie Technology Group has secured a $200 million investment from the federal government’s National Reconstruction Fund Corporation (NRFC).

The investment, the largest investment from the fund in a single company to date, will be used to support the development of sovereign, secure digital infrastructure and cybersecurity services.

Under the terms of the transaction, the company will be issued $200 million of perpetual, callable, unsecured and non‍-‍convertible securities by 1 March next year.

Proceeds will support product development initiatives from Macquarie’s Cloud Services and Government business segment to support accelerated use of sovereign cloud services and AI by Australian government agencies, the defence sector and critical infrastructure industries.

Macquarie Technology Group CEO David Tudehope said the company is “delighted to partner with NRFC and secure this investment, which provides long‍-‍term capital to support our growth initiatives while providing additional financial flexibility and diversification of our funding sources.”

He said the new source of capital will enable the group to expand its role as a provider of secure digital infrastructure and cybersecurity services.

Macquarie Technology Group remains the only company to have achieved the highest level of certification by the Australian Government for both Cloud Services and Data Centre facilities under the government’s Hosting Certification Framework (HCF). The group has also been building out its security operations centre (SOC) capabilities since 2022, and today has integrated over 90 SOCs servicing Australian businesses.
