TAFE SA opens cybersecurity training centre

TAFE SA has opened South Australia’s first cybersecurity training centre at its Adelaide City Campus.

The state-of-the-art facility comprises a red ‘attack’ room and blue ‘defence’ room, and will give students the ability to hone their skills with real-life scenarios, simulations and testing opportunities.

The training centre will be used by students from TAFE SA’s 12-month Certificate IV in Cyber Security course, which the institution said is one of its fastest growing courses. With the advent of the new Cyber Traineeship Pathway, enrolments have increased from just five to 73.

TAFE SA Chief Executive David Coltman said the new facility will allow it to provide students with the latest training in the field, and to add further cybersecurity qualifications to its training scope.

South Australian Premier Steven Marshall added that the facility will play a role in helping ensure the state’s economy has access to the trained cyber workers it needs.

“It is critically important that companies in the defence supply chain are armed with cyber-ready capabilities, and naturally, the key to advancing South Australia’s cyber industry and capabilities is building a trained and skilled workforce,” he said.

“Our focus is to position South Australia as a global leader in the cybersecurity industry, which will not only protect our most important assets and defence projects from cyber attacks, but also create new job opportunities and stimulate economic growth for our state.”
