Cyber Academy scholarship program for veterans
Allectum has announced the Veterans Cyber Academy Scholarship program for 2022. Hosted by the SANS Institute, the Academy will offer 20 veterans the opportunity to undertake an industry-recognised cybersecurity program at no cost.
Aimed at former ADF members and their spouses who have had no previous cyber training, the Academy aims to create employment opportunities and address cyber skills shortages in Australia. It follows on from successful programs in the UK and the US, which have seen a high percentage of applicants pass the course and secure employment.
The Academy consists of an aptitude assessment and screening process, with selected candidates undertaking a structured 16-week program covering three SANS Institute courses. Courses are held online, predominantly out of hours, culminating in an intensive two-week period, an exam and industry-recognised certification. Throughout the training, candidates receive mentoring and support from cybersecurity industry professionals.
The courses offered by the SANS Institute are globally recognised and identified by the Department of Defence and the Australian Government as critical training for the future workforce of cyber professionals. Suitable placement opportunities are sought for graduates, offering a supported transition into employment.
